10th/12th Students are more stressed than ever…Why?

Students are stressed than ever not only in India but all over the globe. In fact, India has one of the highest rate of suicides among people aged between 15 and 30, examination failure and depression are some of the reasons why people put their life at risk.
A common cause of concern is the pressure from the parents as well as from the school to do well in class 10th and 12th board exams and even before that, which goes to extreme levels to push students for better grades. There have been many incidents in the past where students have committed suicide during exams and on the result day.

But what can be so extreme that students decide to end their life?
The Counsellor suggests that students suffer from anxiety and traumatic disorder relating to fear of examination. The fear factor is the reason why students suffer from depression and the following consequences.
The best time of the life that students are supposed to enjoy is the time they are pushed to the extreme levels which can be overwhelming for many.
In our culture, time to time many complaints have been made against the Indian education system which is more inclined towards memorization and takes long systematic study hours. Leaving less time for creativity, activities, and socialization which is an essential part of the development of a student.
The performance of a student’s in class 10th and12th determines the choice of college or university he/she will get admission in. After the result, students from different streams go into further stress by giving entrance exams for different universities and colleges and competitive exams.
Parent must understand that self-growth of a student is not determined by the academic success and grades, but on the basis of individual qualities, they already have.
Parents give so much importance to better grades that students forget the fun element in learning.
Anything can be made interesting if taught well.
At Dishya Educare, we believe that everyone learns differently and students could develop their own plans on how to study for long hours effectively and parents could help them develop their own learning methods.
With coming boards examination, what every parent should understand is, it’s just exams, not the end of the world. The success of someone lies in what they chose to do with their resources, the actions they take, and not on the grades.

It is not stress that kill us….It is our reaction to it. —- “Hans Selye”
